About Carolyn Maimone-Dillon |
|
First and foremost, I want to thank you for visiting my website. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve on the Water Authority. I look forward to representing District 3 and I take this responsibility very seriously. I believe that we must preserve and maintain the precious gems that are our Lakes and Waterways, and I feel to make a difference you have to get involved. That is the sole reason why I decided to be on this board; to have a positive influence. Who is Carolyn Maimone-Dillon ? I am a native of Lake County, was born at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, graduated from Eustis High School and attended Lake Sumter Community College. I grew up swimming and skiing on Lake Joanna and Lake Gertrude was the site for one of my check-out dives when I was PADI certified many years ago. I have fond memories of fishing with my Dad on the Harris Chain-of-Lakes. My husband and I met while boating on Lake Dora, and we were married on the water near Lake Harris, the wedding party arrived and departed by boat. We have lived on the Harris Chain of Lakes in Venetian Village, Tavares, for over 9 years. We are avid boaters and enjoy getting out on the water whenever possible. I also dabble in photography, and enjoy combining the two interests. All the scenic photos on my site were taken on our chain of lakes by my own hand. I hope you enjoy them. My father, Dr. John C. Maimone, is a retired Chiropractor who served this community’s natural health needs for over 30 years. My step-mother and campaign manager, Loretta Maimone, has been a successful business person in Lake County for over 25 years and counting. They both have taught me the values and courage to do what is right, and the business sense required to get the job completed successfully. My Mom, Jo Maimone, was the definition of a nature lover. She taught me a deep respect and love of nature from the waterways and beyond. She worked many years as a care-giver in Melbourne, FL and retired last year at the age of 70, she passed away earlier this year. My husband, George Dillon, and his parents, John and Bunny Dillon are from Lake County Illinois. My husband and his sister Patty grew up boating on the Fox Chain of Lakes in IL and my in-laws live on the water off the Dead River. Over the years both my husband and my father-in-law have raced in and won numerous APBA (American Power Boat Association) races. Why Vote for Carolyn Maimone-Dillon? My Views—I believe that it is extremely important as a governmental body to be fiscally prudent. However, I also believe that without qualified and dedicated people on the Water Authority Board of Trustees, Lake County’s residents and waterways will not be adequately protected from the harmful decisions of other agencies. Therefore it is imperative to elect candidates that are concerned not only with taxation but also about our water and waterways. I will not make promises to my constituents that I cannot honor, for I will be one voting member on a board of seven. However, I will promise that all of my decisions and actions will be made with the best interest of all residents of Lake County and all waterways, over which the Authority is charged to protect and restore, at the forefront. Volunteer—In March of 2007 a group of Venetian Village residents met to determine what could be done about the declining state of our canals. Within a few weeks and several meetings two small groups were formed to create petitions and obtain signatures. I was on the “Petition Committee” and was assigned the task of creating and printing the Petitions and documenting the names and addresses of those who signed. Accomplishing this goal for our community required many man hours by only a handful of dedicated residents, but by May of 2007 we had collected over 400 signatures for each Board. Specifically, 471 for LCWA and 465 for SJRWMD. We presented these to LCWA and SJRWMD and spoke at a few of their board meetings. Eventually we were approached by a couple of highly influential persons and they encouraged us to form a formal committee and assign board members. In July of 2007, ROW—Restore Our Waterways, was formed. We have five board members (we call ourselves the ROW Task Force) and I am currently the Chairman and Secretary. The ROW Task Force conducts monthly meetings, and ensure our presence at all LCWA and HCLRC meetings. Employment—For over 12 years I worked for Aquatic Eco-Systems, Inc. in Apopka Florida. I held several positions over those years including accounting and purchasing but for the majority of my tenure I was the Database Administrator the IT Manager and the Large Projects Manager. AES is the largest distributor of aquaculture equipment in the United States and even though I was not a biologist or engineer, every day was an aquatic learning experience. If interested, and I was, all employees were encouraged to learn about water quality, including, filtration, purification and oxygenation and the importance of these to aquatic habitats. The President at that time, who is the original owner and founder of the company has a lot of positive influence on his employees. He is a member of FOLA (Friends of Lake Apopka) and served on the board for his community on Bear Lake in Apopka. He had a lot of good advice for us when we were forming ROW. It was a very fascinating and educational company and I enjoyed my employment very much. Prior to that I worked 10 years as a buyer and accounts payable manager at a screen printing company in Mt. Dora. In 2007 I started Dillon and Company, Inc. a Business and IT consulting company. Owning my own business, and the flexibility of setting my own work schedule allows me to dedicate more time to waterway issues and attend monthly meetings of the LCWA (Lake County Water Authority) and the HCLRC (Harris Chain of Lakes Restoration Council). I am very proud to say that I have been attending these meetings for over a year. This attendance has given me a solid background into what the Water Authority and the Harris Council are currently working on and why. I have seen first hand how each member feels about issues and can honestly say that the current board, with their unique combined dynamic is a very large reason why I decided to get more heavily involved. Every one of the board members has passion that I envy and want to emulate through my tenure with the Water Authority.
